New Refugee Microenterprise grants

Discretionary Funds for Refugee Child Care Microenterprise Development Project

Description

This grant initiative will provide microenterprise business opportunities to refugee women focusing on child care mentoring programs that will facilitate integration into the U.S. cultural norms and State Child Care requirements. It will assist in English language acquisition, advance educational attainment (GED) and improve economic opportunities through application of acquired job skills in a market where there is a shortage of child care providers. Through the grant, mentors will help women establish agreements or contracts with State or county child care offices so they may qualify for State/county child care reimbursement as child care service providers.

Discretionary Grants Awards for Refugee Microenterprise Development Projects

Description

The Administration for Children and Families; (ACF) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) has supported microenterprise development projects since 1991 through the award of discretionary grants to a variety of public agencies, community economic development agencies, local mutual assistance associations, and voluntary agencies. Organizations with successful programs have typically been those with a long-term commitment to microenterprise, particularly in the areas of providing access to lending and in its adaption to the refugee experience. Grantees under this program have committed agency resources to support refugee programs. Their work in refugee microenterprise development has been consistent with the agency’s overall mission.
